Heineken Executives Says Facebook Now Rivals YouTube for Video Ads

Facebook auto-play video ads grows like an embryo. 

It's obvious that Nine (9) months after Facebook debuted auto-play video ads, one major brand utilizing them is willing to put the social media platform on par with YouTube when it comes to video ad performance.

"YouTube and Facebook are equal players now, or at least close to it," Ron Amram, senior media director of marketing, Heineken USA, told Adweek. "What we're finding is that we have to consider Facebook as the key video partner going forward because not only does it have the reach but the effectiveness."

Here's why he's bullish on Facebook's nascent promos: While pushing Heineken Light to 21 to 34 year olds in the United States in October, the brand's digital spots—in three days—were exposed to the newfeeds of 35 million Facebook users, producing 5.5 million views, according to Amram. That means 16 percent of the people reached watched the spot.

"This is the first time we've looked at [Facebook] as part of our digital video strategy overall," he said. "It complements television very well but also goes beyond it."

When a South Korean Christian group were given the green light to rebuild a 30-foot Christmas tree near the border, the powers-that-be in Pyongyang were not impressed, to say the very least.

Seoul’s defence ministry announced on Tuesday that the steel tower on Aegibong, a hill just miles from the North Korean town of Kaesong, would be lined with light bulbs and have a cross placed on top.

But North Korea called the tree a tool for psychological warfare and immediately threatened to fire artillery at it, the Wall Street Journalreports.

‘[The tower] is not just a means for religious events but a symbol of madcap confrontation racket for escalating tensions,’ said North Korean state media.

South Korea, however, aren’t backing down, and say the new tower will be installed and lit up for two weeks from 23 December.

Swamp-buggy Carterpillar Caused Oil Spillage In Rivers State On November 22, 2014.

Shell Petroleum Development Company has described the oil spill in Okolo launch community in Bonny Local Government as an act of sabotage.

SPDC stated that contrary to the claim in some quarters that the spill, which occurred on November 22, 2014, was caused by a swamp-buggy caterpillar belonging to one of its (Shell) contractors, the leak was as a result of sabotage.

The Organization of Fishermen, Seafood Dealers and Farmers in the Niger Delta had alleged that the oil firm intentionally decided not to own up to the oil spill in order to avoid paying compensation.

The union insisted that the swamp buggy machine operator handling Shell’s project in the community had hit the 24-inch Trans-Niger Pipeline, a development that caused huge oil spill in Okolo launch.

Protests In New York After Jury Frees Officer Involved In Chokehold Death

Protesters poured onto the streets of New York late Wednesday, upset over a grand jury’s decision not to indict a police officer in the death of Eric Garner.

During the fatal encounter July 17 on Staten Island, Garner raised both hands in the air and told the officers not to touch him. Seconds later, a video shows officer Daniel Pantaleo grab Garner in a chokehold from behind and pull him to the sidewalk, rolling him onto his stomach.”I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe!” Garner said repeatedly, his death was later ruled a homicide.

The grand jury was made up of 14 white and nine nonwhite members, according to law enforcement sources. A total of 12 jurors who have heard all the evidence must be in agreement for a decision. The grand jury found that there was no “reasonable cause” to indict.

Intel Will Reportedly Be Inside the New Version of Google Glass

As it is now, technology is really going wild. 

Intel will craft the chip inside the next version of Google Glass, which could lead to a longer battery life and new workplace applications, according to The Wall Street Journal, which cited unnamed sources.

Google is expected to release the new Glass sometime in 2015. Intel's chip will replace Texas Instrument's processor following criticism that the device's battery life only lasts a few days—a few hours if the wearer uses functions like video recording.

Nigeria Halts U.S. Training Programme For Military

The Nigerian government requested for the suspension of the training programme less than a month after Washington said it refused to sell the country Cobra attack helicopters.

The US turned down the helicopter request “due to concerns about Nigeria’s ability to use and maintain this type of helicopter in its effort against Boko Haram and ongoing concerns about the Nigerian military’s protection of civilians when conducting military operations,” State Department spokeswoman, Jen Psaki said in Washington on November 12.

“At the request of the Nigerian government, the United States will discontinue its training of a Nigerian Army battalion,” the US Embassy in the capital, Abuja, said in an e-mailed statement.

The training programme was designed to help Nigeria battle the Islamist militant group, Boko Haram. But now, the programme is halt and suspended.
